Apart from the biggies, whose success were a foregone conclusion, the year had a string of surprises in store for us

Chak De! India

You didn't see Shah Rukh cry, you didn't see him clean-shaven, you didn't see him sing, yet Shah Rukh Khan managed to set the cash-registers ringing with his magnetic persona. This came as King Khan's third offbeat film after Swades and Paheli. Chak De…saw him playing a hockey coach for the national women's national team who finally wins the World Cup for India.

After Ta Ra Rum Pum flopped, Yash Raj Films played it safe with publicity of Chak De! India. Especially with no item girls, no love angle and all newcomers, everyone expected the film to be a dud. The film opened badly, but became the only hit of the year for Yash Raj. It worked largely on word of mouth.

Don't be rude or interrupt others who are having a conversation. Ethnic slurs, personal insults and abuses are rather uncool. Criticise, but know where to draw the line. No point putting in personal details or links, we won't publish them. Try and write in English and please, stick to the point!
