Hrithik closing in on SRK?

The actor is almost as popular as King Khan in the overseas market

With Jodhaa Akbar turning out to be a big grosser, there's no doubt Hrithik Roshan has raced way ahead of a host of other actors in the overseas segment. Earlier it was Shah Rukh Khan who had the maximum fan following abroad. Close on his heels was Akshay Kumar. But now, it's Hrithik!

According to box-office collections, Jodhaa Akbar has been the biggest blockbuster in the overseas market, collecting about $7.5 million (Rs 28 crore). GVN Kumar, project designer for Motion Pictures explains, "In North America, Jodhaa Akbar has got a fantastic opening of $16,02,356 from 100 screens and cumulatively it has collected $33,36,296. In the UK, it has taken a decent opening of £3,63,726 from 46 screens and cumulatively it has collected £9,72,888. In Australia, it has collected $3,94,000." We wonder, is SRK watching?

@seema, are you farah khan in disguise trying to justify
your feelings for srk? If you think people are trying to
defend hrithik, they are genuine people. When it comes to
srk, his world is full of chamchas that's why he
doesn't need to put an effort for publicity. Hell they
do it for him :d

@arun, i have been observing your manly love about srk in
many articles. Just one suggestion, try to be grammatically
correct like your favorite srk, who puts extra bates in many
words :p no harsh feelings.

Lovely said aruna!
there you showed his jealousy and ignorance!

King Khan Mar 27, 2008 at 12:36 AM

Suhani baby, at least try and live up to your name!!

your comments clearly show that you don't have any
clue about acting or film industry... On top of that you
have great difficulty in expressing yourself. Your comment
reminds me of ishan awasthi of tzp....

now, coming to the topic you're contending, srk,
without even an ounce of doubt, is bollywood's biggest
star today. And that's not just my verdict but
it's of the masses. He's a very versatile actor,
intelligent guy and at the same time very down-to-earth
(unlike big b's pseudo modesty or an aamir's
cockiness). Srk's definitely best of today's lot
when it comes to a combo of acting and star power. Now if
you want pure acting, it's never big b or aamir or even
for that matter hrithik (though he never figures anywhere
closeby) that you should be looking at. Go look at guys like
naseruddin, pankaj kapoor, om puri etc. Unfortunately for
such actors, only their acting is good and hence they never
manage to appeal to the masses... Today, no one but srk can
deliver the biggest bollywood hit of all times (oso). Though
some pseudo-intellects had a thing or two to say about oso
being very masala, this is exactly where srk comes in as
it's very difficult to take a pure masala flick with
poor story and turn it into bolly's biggest hit ever.
And he did it with ease in spite of huge competition trying
to destablize the movie...

frankly, i don't know whether you have a problem with
srk's acting or his success. I think it's the
latter as you seem one of those persons whose just trying
her best to downplay srk's achievements, which are now
a legend across the globe.... So, i'll not waste any
more of my time to address you as no matter how much water
on pours over a rock, it will never absorb a drop....

Arun Mar 26, 2008 at 02:00 PM

Srk is the worst actor in bolly wood....He tries to copy
mr.Amitabh bachchan but alas he is not even closer to dust
oe his feet....He dont knows how to act...His acting is
repititive....U cannot compare him wid hrithik...Srk is
hungry for fame, see how he promoted his rediculous movie oso
so furiously...Srk is the loser...Now he doesnt have any
scope in movies...He is a fake person.....And i dont know
why media soi mad after him and y they call him king of
bollywood...He is d most hyped and overrated by the media

suhani Mar 26, 2008 at 12:01 PM

Mehul, yawn, yawn.... Hrithik is no where near srk except
for his height. In everything else, srk leaves hrithik eons
behind.... And it's the world that loves srk (barring a
few jealous guys loke you)....

now oso might've been a masal movie and ja, a
intellectual crap but in the end, it was srk who made all
the difference by taking a masala movie like oso and turning
it into the biggest bolly hit of all times!! That's
star power for you whether you like it or not!!!

Arun Mar 24, 2008 at 11:44 PM

Ja is movie wid content, oso has nothing to watch. Oso
sucks!!!!!!!!

as far as duggu is concerned he was always ahead, stylish,
versatile than srk. Oso is first blockbuster of 2008.

mehul Mar 24, 2008 at 08:41 AM

Karan, that's the biggest joke so far on this site....
Btw, are you hrithik posting this comment using an alias?? I
think so else why would you come down so harshly on the
biggest star of bollywood, king khan? Only a hrithik can be
that jealous of king khan....

well, oso was the biggest hit of all times and srk hardly
did any publicity for it except his six pack abs thing which
was all created by the media to sell themselves. Srk never
went around splashing his 6 pack!! The movie had such lovely
songs that people just went about humming/playing them
everywhere. Most of oso's publicity was
word-of-mouth... Do you understand these things? Hope so and
if not, i'm sorry for you...

as for hrithik, ja was one of the biggest turn-offs of
past few years... It really sucked... People were boo-ing in
multiplexes all the time... And multiplexes were filled only
to 20-30% of it's capacity... Ja survived at the bo
only because it never faced any competition for 5 continuous
weeks... Just see it's fate now on once it has to take
on 'race' and other upcoming movies....

Seema Mar 22, 2008 at 12:00 PM

Offcourse hirthik is much much better then shahrukh , oso
was the worst movie i have seen with the hype he created ,
he pushed the movie sooo hard , there was nothing in the
movie except for songs , jodhha akbar is far superior
movie tehn oso, and hrithik is better actor , he is much
better looking , better body , . Shahrukh's days are over .

Karan Mar 20, 2008 at 10:29 PM

Hrithik, and closing in on srk? This couldn't have been
funnier...
hrithik's last one, jodha akbar, was one of the most
pathetic movies when compared to the hype. From no angle can
hrithik even get close to even srk's feet.....
