'I've invited SRK and Amitji for Jaane Tu...'

Aamir is going head over heels to make his nephew's debut BIG with his third production Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. Here the actor talks about his nephew Imran and a dream they share…

So you are launching your nephew Imran Khan…

Actually it didn't start that way… Jhamu Sugandh was producing Jaane Tu… along with two other films. Unfortunately, there was a financial crisis and Jaane Tu… was without a producer. When Abbas Tyrewala narrated the script to me I just fell in love with it. As a producer or an actor, I want the audience to be happy about its quality. After I decided to produce the film, I went through all the auditions to check if they were perfect for their roles… only then did I approve. But now that the film is ready, it brings back memories of chacha jaan launching me in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT). Our families are very close and we all have grown up together - Mansoor, Nuzhat, Nikhat and me.

What do you think of Abbas Tyrewala, as a director?

Abbas is very talented and that reflects in his earlier works. He has written scripts for Munnabhai, Maqbool… I really like his sense of humor. When he approached me, I had asked him to shoot five scenes based on which I decided to produce the film. He has done a commendable job and I was confident of him.

Talking about QSQT, we hear you'd gone around places and stuck posters, stickers of your movie during the launch?

Yes, I have done that. You see newcomers faced a lot of difficulties in our times. Unlike today, we never had platforms where we could promote our films. I remember Juhi and I hardly gave any interviews and the few that we gave never got published. But now times have changed. (He laughs)

So you mean life is much more easier for Imran?

Yes it is, as compared to what we had to go through.

You are accused of interfering too much in the filmmaking process …

On the contrary, I was not there for a single day during the shooting of Jaane Tu… I was shooting for Taare Zameen Par at the same time as Jaane Tu. In fact there's a funny incident I recall. I was crossing Bandra Bandstand and I saw a few people shooting there. Curiosity got the better of me and I stopped to see who they were. When I got down I was surprised to see Mansoor Khan, Abbas Tyrewala and Imran Khan shooting for Jaane Tu… that was the only day I was on the sets of Jaane Tu… and it was an accident.
