Is Devgan taking on Aamir Khan?
Ajay Devgan is a fine actor. He has proved his mettle time and again and now hopes to win acclaim as a director. The actor has won a National Award twice and he's selective about his work. While a lot of actors are busy displaying their six-pack abs, Ajay opts for roles where he can flaunt his emotions instead.
He is not media savvy, but is constantly in the limelight. He steers clear of controversies and gossip but the audience constantly wants to know what he is up to. And the usually quiet Ajay was in an unusually vociferous mood and for once his replies went beyond the usual 'hmm', 'yup' and 'nopes'. Ram Kamal Mukherjee actually got Ajay Devgan to go beyond the monosyllables and speak out straight from the heart…
Were you nervous while shooting on the first day of your directorial debut?
Not really. I am a confident person and I did my groundwork really well before wielding a megaphone for U, Me Aur Hum .
The title of the film sounds weird…
(Interrupts) You mean to say, different?
Okay… I correct myself!
The title is different because the subject is really hat ke from the kind of cinema we have been watching off late. It's too early to reveal the plot or discuss the film. I am still working on the post-production, so allow me to concentrate on that.
It seems that you started working on post-production with your dad when you were just eight years old. How does that experience help you when you donned the hat of a director?
Well, I know exactly what I want. I think I have worked with the best directors and technicians since my debut. I have seen each one’s level of involvement. But I give a lot of credit to my dad Veeru Devgan, who taught me the technicalities of film making, much before I became an actor. I remember sitting beside my dad when he used to edit those action scenes and discuss the cuts with his director. I always enjoyed those days.
